About this Policy
FoodoZone Limited ("FoodoZone", "we", "us") operates an online platform through which customers can order food from independent restaurants and food businesses ("Restaurant Partners").
This Policy explains how allergen information is handled on FoodoZone and the respective responsibilities of FoodoZone, Restaurant Partners and customers.
Food allergies can cause serious and potentially life-threatening reactions. Customers with allergies or intolerances should carefully review the available allergen information before ordering.
The 14 regulated allergens
UK food-information law requires food businesses to provide information where food contains any of the following regulated allergens as ingredients:
- Celery
- Cereals containing gluten
- Crustaceans
- Eggs
- Fish
- Lupin
- Milk
- Molluscs
- Mustard
- Peanuts
- Sesame
- Soybeans (soya)
- Sulphur dioxide and sulphites above the applicable threshold
- Tree nuts
Customers may also have allergies or intolerances to ingredients outside these 14 regulated allergens.
Allergen information for online orders
For distance sales, including orders made through websites and apps, mandatory allergen information must be available:
- before the customer completes the purchase; and
- when the food is delivered.
Restaurant Partners are responsible for supplying accurate and current allergen information relating to the food they prepare and sell.
FoodoZone may display this information through menus, item descriptions, allergen sections or other appropriate methods on the platform.
Restaurant Partner responsibilities
Each Restaurant Partner is responsible for the food it prepares and supplies and for complying with applicable food-safety and allergen-information requirements.
Restaurant Partners must:
- provide accurate and up-to-date allergen information;
- identify regulated allergens contained in their food;
- update information following relevant changes to ingredients, recipes or suppliers;
- appropriately manage allergen cross-contact risks;
- ensure relevant staff understand allergen procedures;
- appropriately handle allergy-related customer enquiries and order information; and
- ensure substitutions do not make existing allergen information inaccurate.
Restaurant Partners must not make misleading claims about whether a product is suitable for people with particular allergies.
Customers with food allergies
If you or someone you are ordering for has a food allergy or intolerance, please review the allergen information available before placing your order.
If you have a serious allergy, require additional information, or are uncertain whether an item is suitable, contact the Restaurant Partner directly before ordering.
Clearly tell the Restaurant Partner which allergen or ingredient must be avoided and ask about relevant ingredients and cross-contact risks.
If you cannot obtain sufficient information to determine whether a food is suitable for your allergy, do not order or consume it.
Special instructions and allergy notes
Where FoodoZone allows customers to add order notes or special instructions, entering an allergy in these fields does not guarantee that a Restaurant Partner can safely accommodate the request.
Customers should obtain the necessary allergen information before completing their order.
Restaurant Partners remain responsible for appropriately reviewing and handling allergy-related information received with an order.
Cross-contact
Restaurants may handle multiple allergens within the same kitchen.
Unintentional cross-contact may occur through shared equipment, utensils, fryers, preparation surfaces, storage areas or other food-handling processes.
Restaurant Partners are responsible for assessing and appropriately managing these risks.
Customers with serious allergies should confirm relevant preparation and cross-contact information with the Restaurant Partner before ordering.
Ingredient changes and substitutions
Ingredients, recipes, brands and suppliers can change.
Restaurant Partners are responsible for updating allergen information when relevant changes occur and for considering the allergen implications of ingredient substitutions.
Customers with allergies should check allergen information each time they order, even if they have previously ordered the same item.
FoodoZone's role
FoodoZone provides the technology that connects customers with independent Restaurant Partners.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, FoodoZone does not prepare or manufacture food sold by Restaurant Partners.
Information concerning a Restaurant Partner's ingredients, recipes, preparation methods and allergens is supplied and maintained by that Restaurant Partner.
FoodoZone may investigate reported inaccuracies, request corrections and, where appropriate and permitted under its contractual arrangements, restrict affected menu items or Restaurant Partners.
Nothing in this Policy excludes or limits any duty or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Reporting an allergen issue
If you believe allergen information on FoodoZone is incorrect, incomplete or outdated, please contact food@foodozone.com.
Where possible, provide:
- the restaurant name;
- the menu item;
- the allergen concerned;
- your order number; and
- details of the issue.
FoodoZone may investigate the report with the relevant Restaurant Partner and take appropriate action.
Allergic reactions and emergencies
A serious allergic reaction is a medical emergency.
If you or another person is experiencing a serious allergic reaction, seek urgent medical assistance immediately and call 999 in the UK.
Do not delay emergency treatment while contacting FoodoZone or the Restaurant Partner.
After the immediate medical situation has been addressed, please report the incident to food@foodozone.com.
Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy to reflect changes in applicable law, regulatory guidance, our services or our operating procedures.
The latest version will be published on the FoodoZone website and/or app.
